Some researchers have reported that even genetic factors may be also involved in the causes of Vulvodynia.
Can We use CBD for Vulvodynia?
CBD is the chemical extract of the cannabis (hemp) plant. It is completely non-toxic and non-psychoactive. For this reason, CBD doesn't provide any high effects. There is very little information available about the use of CBD for the treatment of Vulvodynia according to medical sciences. But according to some independent research studies, CBD has very strong anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. For this reason, we can use CBD for Vulvodynia pain relief. The researchers are ongoing to find the mechanism through which CBD reduces pain and inflammation. Some researches studies have reported that CBD can reduce pain and inflammation by interacting with the body's Endocannabinoid System. We will discuss this mechanism in detail in the next section.
CBD interacts with Body's Endocannabinoid System for Vulvodynia pain relief:
Endocannabinoid System is an additional immune system in the body that starts from the brain and spread all over the body. The Endocannabinoid system uses some cannabinoids and produces some cannabinoids. This system is responsible for the many important functions of the body for example memory, emotions, sleep, and temperature, but it is specialized in the regulation of pain reception and inflammatory responses.
Endocannabinoid System works through its receptors. There are two kinds of receptors present in the Endocannabinoid System, CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. CB2 receptors are specialized in pain reception and inflammation production regulations. CBD binds with CB2 receptors and manipulate them in such a way that they reduce pain and inflammation.
You can understand the working of CBD for Vulvodynia Pain relief from this mechanism. Many researches have investigated the effects of CBD on Vulvodynia pain. The results are very satisfying.
According to recent research on the women suffering from Vulvodynia, 60% of the women felt better after using CBD and 20% of women reported that they have completely got rid of Vulvodynia after using CBD. But these results are not enough to prove that CBD actually works medically. Researches are still ongoing on this topic.
CBD can alleviate anxiety and depression caused by Vulvodynia:
Almost 70% of women feel anxiety and depression in the condition of Vulvodynia. Apart from Vulvodynia pain relief, CBD can alleviate and reduce anxiety and depression also. The mechanism is the same as pain relief but in this case, CBD reacts with CB1 receptors and stops the reuptake of Anandamide chemicals by the tissues. Anandamide is a happy chemical that is responsible for happy feelings. CBD inhibits its uptake so it can stay in the body for a longer time and produce its effects.
